Inaugural e-Government Awards Launched
The Special Minister of State, the Hon Gary Nairn MP, today called for nominations for the Australian Government's inaugural 'Excellence in e-Government Award', which will recognise and reward successful and outstanding projects in e-Government in Australia.
"The award winner will be announced following a day-long e-Government Forum at the upcoming CeBIT Australia, on 10 May" said Minister Nairn. Minister Nairn said that the e-Government forum is a partnership between CeBIT organisers Hannover Fair, and the Australian Government, through the Australian Government Information Management Office (AGIMO).
ICT Driving Economic Growth
The Minister for Communications, Information Technology and the Arts, Senator the Hon Helen Coonan, today released economic research that further emphasises the significant contribution of information and communications technology (ICT) to Australia’s strong productivity performance in recent years.
The ABS today also released its first serious analysis of the contribution of ICT to the economy further demonstrating the significant contribution that technology is making to Australia’s economic strength. According to the ABS in 2002-03, ICT accounted for $36.2 billion or 4.6 per cent of GDP, 13.8 per cent of total investment by Government and industry and made a greater contribution to the economy than the agriculture, forestry and fishing, defence and education industries.
Austrade Briefings - US Market
Austrade is running a series of seminars on "Finding and responding to opportunities in the USA US Homeland Security Market".
With a recent six-percent boost in funding, US DHS will spend US$42 billion on protecting the US homeland in 2007, of which more than US$6 billion is expected on IT programs alone. The seminar is designed to assist Aussie companies understand and identify relevant export opportunities. The seminars are to be held in Melbourne - 28 March, Canberra - 30 March, and Sydney - 31 March.
