This Week’s New Tenders (60 New)
2006 e-Government Strategy: Responsive Government: A New Service Agenda.
It has been three years since the Australian Government released its 2002 e-government strategy, Better Services, Better Government.
The strategy charts how the government will build on progress in e-government to date, and how government will progress towards the vision of connected and responsive government by 2010.
ACS welcomes e-government Plan
The ACS (Australian Computer Society) has welcomed the Federal Government’s strategy for e-government, “Responsive-Government, A New Service Agenda” as a strong step forward in enhancing and streamlining government services and reducing the complexity of dealing with government.
Recent reports by the Australian Bureau of Statistics and the Department of Information Technology and the Arts indicate that ICT innovation is underpinning productivity in all sectors of the Australian economy and will continue to do so into the foreseeable future. Mr Argy congratulated Special Minister of State, Gary Nairn, for highlighting the opportunity for small ICT businesses to benefit from the export potential of any innovative solutions they might develop in supporting the e-government initiative.
Show Me the Numbers
In 1997, Edward R Tufte, one of the world's leading experts in the visual presentation of information, showed how poor data presentation helped contribute to the 1986 explosion of the space shuttle Challenger, which led to the deaths of seven astronauts. Tufte's argument was compelling: had the presentations to NASA officials about the potential risk of O-ring failure in cold temperatures been better designed, decision makers would have understood the extreme risk involved and surely would have postponed the launch.
