The Australian Information Industry Association (AIIA) has announced a new Board of Directors, tasked with leading Australia’s information and communication technology (ICT) industry in 2007. AIIA’s influential Board of Directors sets the strategic direction the ICT industry. The board determines policies and positions on important issues and works with governments, industry and media to improve the business environment for the ICT industry – both locally and on a global stage.

EXTENSION OF TIME FOR CONNECT AUSTRALIA APPLICATIONS

The deadline for submitting proposals under the Broadband Connect Infrastructure Program and the Clever Networks program—Innovative Services Delivery element have been extended to Monday 18 December 2006, the Minister for Communications, Information Technology and the Arts, Senator Helen Coonan, announced today. “This follows views expressed by some applicants who believe a brief extension would enhance the overall outcomes for both programs,” Senator Coonan said.

VICTORIAN ICT COMPANIES MIXING IN THE BILLIONAIRES CLUB

19 Victorian ICT companies have this week showcased their companies in front of some of the world's greatest entrepreneurs, Minister for Information and Communication Technology Minister Marsha Thomson said today. "The Bracks Government has secured Victoria's position as "International Partner State" for TiECon Delhi 2006, one of the world's largest entrepreneurs' forums in New Delhi from 26 to 28 October." INNOVATION AND INVESTMENT FUND FOR SOUTH AUSTRALIA

Building on the success of the Structural Adjustment Fund for South Australia to facilitate and attract new investment in South Australia, and the decision of a number of companies to close their operations in South Australia, the Australian and South Australian Governments have announced a $30 million package to assist with industry development in South Australia. ACCC Website Information Architecture and Layout Redevelopment

Supply of Broadband Data Services

Description:RFQ for Supply of High-speed data services (MPLS-based) to approx. 33 Department of Commerce sites throughout NSW, under DITM 2000.01 Only carriers who are suppliers under DITM 2000.01 are eligible to tender. The NSW Department of Commerce is upgrading the Wide Area Network in the current financial year. This work will impact over 80 sites throughout NSW. The broadband data services to the greater number of these sites will be provisioned under the Government Broadband Service agreement with Soul. However there are a significant number of Commerce sites for which the Government Broadband Service does not have effective service delivery. It is the provision of broadband services to these locations that is the focus of this Request for Tender. The sites are predominantly located in the Greater Sydney Metro area, with a small number of regional sites also included.

Non-Network Alternatives to Major Transmission Network Upgrades

Transgrid (Sydney, NSW)

Description:This Request for Proposals (RFP) seeks applications for non-network solutions from potential providers. To be eligible for consideration proponents must offer a minimum of either 2 MW or 15MW (depending on the location) of capacity support to TransGrid. Applicants with smaller offers who are interested in participating are encouraged to aggregate individual projects to achieve (or exceed) the minimum capacity limit. Eligible non-network alternatives may include and are not limited to embedded generation and demand response initiatives. Network support provided by non-network solutions are sought in seven major load areas: Wellington, Parkes, Beryl/Mudgee, Forbes, Cowra, Bathurst and Orange. Alternative solutions are sought during both summer and winter months.

Automatic Train Protection Pilot Trial

Description:SWMGOC is seeking to enter into a relationship with an organisation to: Develop and implement a web based system to provide (amongst other functions) on-line Registration and Accreditation, communication with participants and prospective participants, provide on-line information to the Sporting Associations, and post results to the web. This is the primary scope of this RFT. The system development will be spread over several phases, as some facilities (e.g. pre-Registration) are required immediately, and others (such as publishing results) are only required when the Games have commenced. This is intended to allow SWMGOC to defer capital expenditure wherever possible. The system software (and possibly hardware) and setting-to-work will be done on a fixed-price basis.
