This Week's New Tenders (37 New)
Nairn Promotes ICT Industry Partnerships
The Special Minister of State, The Hon Gary Nairn MP has highlighted the importance of an effective engagement between the Australian Government and the ICT industry.
Mr Nairn has highlighted opportunities for the ICT industry resulting from the e-Government strategy he launched earlier this year. Key initiatives including smartcard development; IT security and ICT skills were addressed. Mr Nairn stated that “Essential engagement with the ICT industry must exist in order to produce high quality projects with the Australian Government. We invest $5 billion annually in ICT and an additional $2.7 billion was committed in the 2006-07 Budget. This is proof positive of the priority this government places on ICT and the significant opportunities which exist for industry to work with us on innovative solutions that meet government needs."
ICT's Paradox & Pathway
On Monday this week, the ACS (Australian Computer Society) delivered a national document including 16 crucial statements from its Technologists in the Public Interest (TIPI) initiative, to Anna Bligh, Deputy Premier of Queensland, at an annual industry luncheon in Brisbane.
The ACS believes that ICT is the powerhouse of global productivity and everyone is compelled to use it, but, paradoxically, it is under-performing relative to its true potential, needs to improve its ability to deliver, is viewed with scepticism despite being the key driver of business productivity, and has lost some of its appeal as a potential career with young people. TIPI identified a need to: - Capture public trust and business confidence; - Establish governance, integrity and ethical frameworks; - Create a clear identity for the ICT industry and profession; and; - Take ICT industry performance to a higher level of maturity.
AIIA Welcomes Capping of ICT Liability
Both government and industry will benefit from the Australian Government’s new policy on limiting supplier liability in ICT contracts.
The Australian Information Industry Association (AIIA) is pleased with the new guide, released yesterday by the Department of Communications, Information Technology and the Arts (DCITA), which it says contains some excellent guidance for both government and industry on the complex issues surrounding liability and risk management in ICT contracting.
