COONAN - FIGURES SHOW GROWING HOUSEHOLD APPETITE FOR BROADBAND
The Minister for Communications, Information Technology and the Arts, Senator Helen Coonan, today welcomed Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) figures showing broadband is booming in households across Australia. “The recently released ABS report, Household use of information technology (2005–06) shows that the number of online households with broadband has close to doubled (to 2.3 million households) in the year to June 2006,” Senator Coonan said.
CSIRO WINS TRANSFER OF US WLAN COURT CASE
A federal court in California has agreed with CSIRO that upcoming US WLAN patent cases brought against CSIRO should be heard in Texas by the same court that recently found in favour of CSIRO against Buffalo companies.
VIC STATE - VICTORIA'S ‘YELLOWFIN’ LANDS IN JAPAN
Victorian ICT solutions provider, Yellowfin International, is diving into the lucrative Japanese ICT market, signing a new deal worth up to $8 million, the Minister for Information and Communication Technology, Tim Holding, said today. Yellowfin, a leading provider of easy-to-use Business Intelligence solutions, has secured a major software distribution agreement with Japan’s Kyocera Maruzen Systems Integration. The deal will see Kyocera provide business support, direct selling and channel sales, as well as support tailoring the products for the local market.
ACS - LEADERSHIP GROUP TO ENCOURAGE PARTICIPATION IN ICT SKILLS AND WORK
Peak information and communication technology (ICT) associations, the Australian Information Industry Association (AIIA) and the Australian Computer Society (ACS) have established the Industry Leadership Group to develop and facilitate participation in ICT study and careers as recommended in the 2006 Building Australian ICT Skills Report of the ICT Skills Foresighting Working Group. Joining the Industry Leadership Group are organisations representing federal and state governments, school, vocation education, and tertiary education providers, ICT and business associations, the ICT research community, and women in ICT (see full list below).
