POLICY AND ASSOCIATION NEWS
AUSTRALIAN CONSUMERS TO BENEFIT FOLLOWING PASSAGE OF MEDIA LAWS
The Parliament today passed laws that will allow the emergence of a range of new services for Australian consumers as we head towards digital switchover, the Minister for Communications, Information Technology and the Arts, Senator Helen Coonan, said today. “By next year, a range of new services including free-to-air, in-home, digital only channels or even perhaps ‘snack’ television – small segments of TV content delivered over a mobile device much like a mobile phone could be available,” Senator Coonan said.
STRONG GROWTH IN BROADBAND TAKE-UP CONTINUES
Australia has continued its strong growth in broadband take-up according to the latest OECD report for June 2006, the Minister for Communications, Information Technology and the Arts, Senator Helen Coonan, said today. The OECD report singled out Australia as an example of a country which is connecting to broadband at a very high rate. The report says Australia is one of just eight countries that have added more than six subscribers per 100 inhabitants during the past year.
AGENDA SETS SCENE FOR ELECTRONICS INDUSTRY GROWTH
The Electronics Industry Action Agenda (EIAA) which has enabled the Australian electronics industry to maintain its competitive advantage in a highly competitive global market will be extended by two years, said the Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Industry, Tourism and Resources, Bob Baldwin.

To provide comment on the resourcing required to support the Landonline application and architecture going forward. This will include providing recommendations on where resources are provided from to support the Landonline Application. 4.
