POLICY AND ASSOCIATION NEWS

$162.5 MILLION FOR AUSTRALIAN BROADBAND GUARANTEE

Australians will now be able to access broadband services regardless of where they live thanks to the Australian Government's $162.5 million Australian Broadband Guarantee, the Minister for Communications, Information Technology and the Arts, Senator Helen Coonan, announced today. The Australian Broadband Guarantee will fill in any remaining broadband blackspots across Australia and will build on the success of the Government's $878 million Broadband Connect program and the $50 million Metro Broadband Connect program.

CSIRO AND CHINESE RESEARCH CORPORATION PARTNER TO COMMERCIALISE WIRELESS TECHNOLOGY

Provision of: Information & Library Services (Sydney)

Australian Prudential Regulatory Authority (Canberra, ACT)

Description:In 2005, APRA engaged Vista Information Services and Solutions to scope and provide recommendations on an Information & Library Service (ILS) that would meet its current information needs. After a period of investigation and with the adoption of the proposed recommendations APRA entered into a contract with Vista Information Services and Solutions to supply services to further develop the ILS. The ILS is now an established service within APRA, although it is still in its infancy. With the recent purchase of library management software (Liberty3), the ILS is now in a position to increase the scope of its operations and provide further services to APRA staff. CrimTrac Budget Management & Reporting System

Description:CrimTrac was established on 1 July 2000 with an initial focus on supplying four key national information systems for law enforcement in Australia. Since its establishment more programs have evolved, with CrimTrac's budget growing and forecast to grow. A multi-functional BMRS is required to meet increased budgetary and reporting complexity and requirements. CrimTrac’s current budget cycle consists of: a) A budget prepared prior to the commencement of the financial year incorporating the coming year and three out-years, submitted to the CrimTrac Board of Management (Board) for approval at their May/June meeting. This budget is then used for Government Additional Estimates reporting, and b) A mid-year review of the current years budget and preparation of the Government budget for the next year and three out-years, submitted to the Board for approval at their November/December meeting.
