POLICY AND ASSOCIATION NEWS
AUSTRADE - AUSSIE BUSINESSES URGED TO BECOME “INSIDERS” IN CHINA
One of the important factors for export success in China is to understand how the market works ‘on-the-ground’ according to newly appointed Country Manager of the Austrade network’s 15 offices around China, Peter Osborne. “Chinese business practice is heavily relationship based, so Australian firms need to be willing to spend time in the market with their business partners to develop strong relationships and trust, on which very good business can be achieved,” Mr Osborne said.
AIMIA - WELCOMES TREMENDOUS GROWTH IN AUSTRALIAN INTERACTIVE ADVERTISING MARKET
John Butterworth, CEO of the Australian Interactive Media Industry Association and a founding member of the Interactive Advertising Bureau in Australia, today welcomed the latest Online Advertising Expenditure Report which showed that The Australian online advertising market grew 61.5% in 2006 to reach $1,001 million.
MACFARLANE - AUSTRALIAN TECHNOLOGIES DRIVE MINING SUCCESSES
Australia’s mining technology sector is well placed to support the sustainable operation of the industry at home and abroad, Australian Minister for Industry, Tourism and Resources, Ian Macfarlane, said today. Delivering the keynote address at the Austmine 2007 exhibition in Perth, Mr Macfarlane said the sector was also playing a key role in meeting future challenges.
BAILEY - SMALL BUSINESS CAN GET BETTER USE OUT OF TECHNOLOGY
Small Business Minister Fran Bailey says while small business has embraced IT, the sector could further benefit by exploring more ways of using computer technology. "A recent CPA Australia survey shows that while more than 90 per cent of small businesses use computers for book-keeping, more than half of small businesses could get even more value from their IT investment," Fran Bailey, Minister for Small Business and Tourism, said today.
BAILEY - MAKING TAX COMPLIANCE EASIER FOR SMALL BUSINESS
The Treasurer and Minister for Small Business and Tourism today released exposure draft legislation containing proposals to reduce compliance burdens for small businesses. These proposals will standardise the eligibility thresholds for small business tax concessions from 1 July 2007.
AUSTRADE - AUSTRALIAN EXPORTERS DRIVING GROWTH
The Australian Government is fully committed to helping businesses continue this outstanding performance and is working hard to ensure exporters have both the best possible access to overseas markets and the support and services they need to succeed. Australia already has four comprehensive Free Trade Agreements (FTAs) and we continue to pursue further reduction of market barriers and the creation of new trade opportunities on multilateral and bilateral levels. Negotiations are currently underway for new FTAs with several of our key markets, including China and Japan.
