CONROY - GOVERNMENT WELCOMES ACCC'S GUIDANCE ON ACCESS TO FTTN NETWORKS
Senator the Hon Stephen Conroy, Minister for Broadband, Communications and the Digital Economy, today welcomed a report from the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) assessing the G9 consortium's special access undertaking to build a fibre to the node (FTTN) network.
CONROY - DIGITAL SWITCHOVER DATE CONFIRMED
Senator the Hon Stephen Conroy, Minister for Broadband, Communications and the Digital Economy, today confirmed that the first firm steps had been taken on the road to completing switchover by the end of 2013. Senator Conroy said that the switchover to digital television was important to all Australians because it offers benefits to viewers such as improved picture and sound quality and greater program choice. It will also make spectrum available for alternate uses such as new mobile services, a fourth television licence and wireless broadband services.
AUSTRADE - AUSSIE IT FIRMS URGED TO PARTNER WITH INDIA
Austrade, the Australian Government’s export development agency, is encouraging local Australian IT companies to take advantage of the growing opportunities in India’s $18.5 billion IT market by attending the sub-continent’s most prestigious trade event, the annual NASSCOM India Leadership Forum. Austrade and the Australian Information Industry Association (AIIA) are taking a mission of Australian ICT firms to attend the conference. The mission will also visit Bangalore and New Delhi where Austrade is organising pitching sessions to present niche Australian solutions to Indian systems integrators and resellers.
VIC STATE - GET THE FACTS ON ICT STUDY AND TAKE YOUR FUTURE FURTHER
Students topping the VCE today should be thinking seriously about taking up cutting-edge study in ICT according to Victoria's Minister for Information and Communication Technology, Theo Theophanous. "Technology can open up a world of options – across industries and across countries so I strongly encourage this year's graduates to consider the huge variety of careers available to them in this growing industry," Mr Theophanous said.
NICTA - REALISING VISION FOR CANBERRA’S ICT KNOWLEDGE PRECINCT WITH OPENING OF NEW LABORATORY
The Canberra operations of NICTA, Australia’s Information and Communications Technology (ICT) Research Centre of Excellence, has moved into its new premise, which is set to become the hub of innovative ICT activity in the Australian Capital Territory. Australian Capital Territory Chief Minister Mr Jon Stanhope officially opened NICTA’s new facilities today, which will bring together NICTA’s three offices in Canberra, housing the current 164 staff and students and providing expansion to 220.
CSIRO - ICT PLUGS INTO HEALTHCARE DELIVERY
Advances in ICT (Information and Communication Technologies) for personal health care are playing a critical role in improving people's health and wellbeing. "Health care systems in OECD countries face tremendous pressure due to ageing societies, lifestyle related chronic illnesses and increasing health care costs," says Dr IIkka Korhonen, Chief Research Scientist of ICT for Health at VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland and International Research Fellow at CSIRO’s e-Health Research Centre (EHRC).
