EMDG - APPLICATIONS CLOSE NOVEMBER 30

The Export Market Development Grants (EMDG) scheme is a key Australian Government financial assistance program for aspiring and current exporters. Administered by Austrade, the scheme supports a wide range of industry sectors and products, including inbound tourism and the export of intellectual property and know-how outside Australia.

The EMDG scheme: encourages small and medium sized Australian businesses to develop export markets; reimburses up to 50 per cent of expenses incurred on eligible export promotion activities, above a $15,000 threshold; provides up to seven grants to each eligible applicant. To access the scheme for the first time, businesses need to have spent $15,000 over two years on eligible export marketing expenses.

BALDWIN - COMPLIANCE BURDEN EASED FOR PATENT APPLICANTS

Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Industry, Tourism and Resources, Bob Baldwin has announced a number of amendments to patent legislation to ease the compliance burden on patent applicants. Up until now, applicants for patents in Australia, who have also applied for patents for their inventions overseas, have been required to pass all foreign patent office searches results to IP Australia with their local patent applications.

AUSTRADE - INDONESIA'S GROWTH TOO IMPORTANT TO IGNORE

With economic growth approaching seven per cent and a consumer class bigger than the population of Australia, Indonesia is a market too large to be ignored, according to a senior trade official. AIIA - TRAINING VOUCHER SCHEME "WELCOME BOOST" FOR SMALL ICT OPERATORS

The Australian Information Industry Association (AIIA) has described the Coalition’s announcement boosting its training voucher scheme as a much-needed shot in the arm for small businesses. “This is great news for SMEs in the ICT space,” said AIIA Chief Executive Officer Sheryle Moon. “One of the biggest obstacles to growth in our industry is the need to build capacity with operators and employees.

NICTA - SECURES EXTRA FUNDING TO KEEP WORLD-CLASS RESEARCHERS IN AUSTRALIA

The Australian Government has contributed an extra $4.8 million over two years to NICTA, Australia’s Information and Communications Technology (ICT) Research Centre of Excellence, which will enable retention of a team of world-class researchers in Australia. Senator the Hon Helen Coonan, Minister for Communications, Information Technology and the Arts and Deputy Leader of the Government of the Senate announced today that the Australian Government would provide extra funding to NICTA to enable the organisation to hire researchers with world-class skills in silicon chip design.

Provision of Desktop, Server and Services to CSIRO

Description:CSIRO is seeking a Tenderer with which to establish a long term strategic relationship for the delivery of innovative cost effective solutions that deliver the CSIRO desktop and server services. A primary driver of this tender is the requirement for CSIRO to reduce the cost of delivering these services. The Statement of Requirement includes the following: • Group A - desktop, laptop, server and peripheral hardware procurement plus reporting and account management services. This is currently provided by an external provider; • Group B - a number of specific desktop services including all moves, adds and changes associated with the desktop hardware. Group B also includes a requirement for project services. Appointment of a Group Training Organisation (GTO) To Administer the Australian Public Service (APS) Information and Communications Technology (ICT) New Apprenticeship Programme

Department of Finance and Administration (Canberra, ACT)

Description:On 16 May 2007, the Australian Government's Management Advisory Committee endorsed a range of initiatives to address the current and projected shortfalls in ICT skills identified in the Management Advisory Committee report, Managing and Sustaining the APS Workforce (2005), including an APS ICT New Apprenticeship Programme (Programme) commencing in 2008. The Programme follows the pilot APS ICT Apprenticeship Programme, which has placed over 70 apprentices across 10 Australian Government agencies since its commencement in February 2007. Finance wishes to engage a Service Provider to assist the Commonwealth in implementing the Programme. Finance anticipates that it will require multiple groups (referred to in this RFT as cohorts) of approximately 40 to 60 Apprentices during the term of the Programme, to be placed with approximately 12 to 16 Australian Government agencies (Host Agencies). Finance expects that the first cohort of Apprentices will commence their placements with Host Agencies in February 2008.

Software Support and Business Analysis Service for the Electronic Conveyancing System

Department of Sustainability and Environment (Melbourne, VIC)

Description:The Victorian Government Department of Sustainability and Environment (DSE) is developing the Electronic Conveyancing (EC) system to make the conduct of key land transactions faster, easier and cheaper for Victorians. EC is a world-leading system that allows the major functions of property conveyancing and related mortgage activities to be conducted via the Internet. System users comprise representatives of banking, legal and conveyancing organisations. Expansion of the EC system both in terms of functionality and the number of users is continuing. For these reasons, EC seeks the services of an experienced, high-quality software development company to provide day-to-day software development and support for the existing EC application. This system has been developed in a Java Enterprise Edition environment and utilises WebSphere application server technology and Oracle databases.
